Google Calendar is a versatile cloud-synced calendar app that allows you to manage your life with ease. Originally a part of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, it is now available as a standalone app.
With Google Calendar, adding and editing events is a breeze. The app opens in schedule view by default, displaying a variable time period based on your calendar entries. You can also choose day view or five-day view, although week view or month view options are not available. However, there is a drop-down menu that temporarily shows the days with events in the month.
When creating an event in Google Calendar, you can invite your phone contacts, add a location, change the timezone, set it as a repetitive event, add a note, and even change the color. Additionally, you can email all the attendees you've invited with a personalized message about the event.
One of the notable features of Google Calendar is its integration with Gmail. It automatically adds events from your email, such as flights you have booked, and sends updates if there are any changes or delays. However, it does not integrate with Facebook or Outlook, so you will need to manually add birthdays.
The app also provides visually appealing pictures to accompany your calendar entries, adding a touch of charm. For example, lunch may have a picture of a table with plates and cutlery, while December may feature snow and skiing.
Google Calendar now boasts the sleek and colorful Material Design of Android Lollipop, making it visually appealing and user-friendly. Adding an event is a simple process, with a prominent red button in the bottom right corner and autocomplete suggestions for places and people.
While the schedule view is a significant improvement, allowing for better usability, the limitation of only being able to display a maximum of five days at a time can be slightly frustrating.
Although Google Calendar offers useful features, such as adding contacts to events and automatically importing events from Gmail, it still has room for improvement in terms of managing your life and enhancing productivity. However, it is steadily progressing towards becoming a top-notch calendar app.
